Elina Fedotova 'Why Organic?'
Article in Dermascope May 2011

The advantages of introducing an organic product line into your skin care practice are quite clear: They are clean and safe. No need to worry about potential reactions to foreign chemicals by clients, or yourself. (That is not to say allergic reactions can not happen with botanical ingredients, because we can be allergic to any substance!)

Once my clients become used to the pure, fresh feeling of products that feed their skin the way nature intended, they tell me they do not even want to touch waxy, fluffy creams anymore. Because good organic products are free of synthetic waxes that do not clog their pores.

Television infomercials about natural skin care products that claim to make the face dewy, youthful, acne-free, wrinkle-free and radiant, titillate the imaginations of women and young girls who long to look like the spokesperson that promotes them. However, close scrutiny of the labels on expensive commercial products that promise rewards after regular cleansing, exfoliating and moisturizing often reveals a list of ingredients that the typical user can’t even pronounce.

NEW YORK—The Healthy Living media event showcased a wide variety of healthy and eco-friendly products from over 40 exhibitors at the Times Square Marriott Marquis Hotel on Thursday. Some of the featured products included organic foods and beverages, energy-saving gadgets, sports gear, and fitness and active-wear items.

A diverse range of businesses from across North America participated at this year’s Healthy Living media event. Panasonic displayed a portable and simple-to-use blood pressure monitor, as well as a contemporary massage sofa chair, ideal for a home theater.

Nuheat Industries from Vancouver, Canada, offered a safe, clean, and energy-efficient heating system, with “the ability to zone heat specific areas,” according to the company’s public relations specialist Christy Fabros.

“It is fully programmable and has the ability to replace old radiators and base-board heaters in old homes. [It can be placed] where you want it and when you want it,” said Nuheat Vice President Suzie Cho.

Representatives from Celestial Seasonings showcased their range of herbal teas, including their latest addition—Sleepytime Green Lemon Jasmine tea. Juice Generation introduced their latest range of organic fruit and vegetable juices, called the Healing Cooler.

Invisalign offered a clear and invisible straightening brace for the beauty-conscious consumer.

Elina Fedotova, founder of Elina Organics from Chicago, introduced her range of handmade, seasonally adjusted, holistic skincare products, which are pure enough to eat. “My products are all organic. What we put on our faces should be as safe and pure as the food we eat. It should be a like a fresh meal for your face,” said Fedotova, who is an herbalist and a cosmetic chemist.

Rob Grennan, co-founder of Goodbyn, presented the company’s reusable and eco-friendly lunch box and drink bottle. Goodbyn hopes these products will help to reduce the use of plastic bags and beverage containers. “They are made in the U.S. and come with stickers—for kids and adults—and they are dish-washer safe,” Grennan said.

Watergeeks offered a water bottle that filters as you drink. “Each filter, which retails at $9.99, filters 80 gallons of water,” said President Ben Bazinet, adding that this is the only filter in the market that effectively filters chromium 6, heavy metals, chlorine, and other contaminants. The company's food-grade stainless-steel bottles come in attractive colors and two sizes: 12 ounces and 24 ounces. They are available from Target.com and NemanMarcus.com. According to Bazinet, they will also be in Meijers in three weeks.

Raleigh public relations representative Jake Hanson promoted the company’s affordable range of hybrid bicycles for city commuters.

Helly Hansen's public relations manager Christina Erb displayed the company’s new active-wear collection, called “HH Cool Training.” According to Helly Hansen, it is suitable to be worn all year round. The new collection uses special technology to keep the body dry by moving moisture away from the body.

The CCV Inc. presented Lytess Slim Wear, a new fitness solution for women who hope to slim down without having to diet, exercise, or change their lifestyle. The line features fabric embedded with tiny capsules containing different ingredients—such as caffeine, red algae, and shea butter—that are gradually released into the skin throughout the day, according to a statement by President Philippe Lahmani.

Lemnis Lighting, meanwhile, introduced a mercury-free Pharox light bulb that will last up to 25 years. The 6-Watt LED bulb does not get hot and offers energy savings of up to 90 percent.

on WZZM-TV's "Take Five & Company"

Ok, let's start with what's really important. How on earth do you manage to look so good during our miserable Chicago winters?

I use Elina Organics for my natural skin care needs. I get a facial with her once every five to six weeks and also get an air compressor treatment! It looks like a huge space suit that squeezes your lymph nodes in a massaging/torturing practice. Either way, wrapped in some of her natural balms, 30 minutes in that suit I am a new person.
